Minimum wage in Indonesia
Indonesia has no single national minimum wage. Governors set a minimum wage for each province, regencies and cities can set a higher one, and some sectors have their own.

Who sets it
The governor of each province sets the provincial minimum wage on the advice of a provincial wage council. A governor may also set a higher minimum for a regency or city, and for sectors.
How it changes
Each province reviews and announces its minimum wage every year, normally to take effect on 1 January. National rules provide the formula the provinces use.
Who is covered, and who is treated differently
- Rates are stated per month.
- Some provinces have sector minimums on top of the area minimums.
What to watch for
- There is no one figure for the country. Find the rate for the province, regency or city where the work is done.
Understand the legal system first
Indonesia belongs to the Civil law family. How pay is regulated depends on how the legal system makes and applies labour law.
