Minimum wage in Austria
Austria has no statutory minimum wage. Almost every employee is covered by a sector collective agreement, which sets the minimum pay for the sector.

Who sets it
Collective agreements between the trade unions and the employers' organisations set minimum pay for each sector. Employers are members of the Chamber of Commerce, so the agreements it concludes cover nearly all employers.
How it changes
Each sector's agreement is renegotiated on its own schedule, usually every year.
Who is covered, and who is treated differently
- Coverage by collective agreements is very high, so in practice almost every employee has a minimum.
- Domestic workers and a few other groups have separate arrangements.
What to watch for
- There is no single figure to quote. Find the collective agreement for the sector.
Understand the legal system first
Austria belongs to the Civil law family. How pay is regulated depends on how the legal system makes and applies labour law.
