The Law To Know

Minimum Wage by Country

Is there a legal minimum wage where you work, or where you plan to? Who decides it, how often does it change, and who is treated differently? This guide answers those questions country by country, and gives the current headline figure with its date and an official source, so that you can check it yourself.

Part of the Legal Families Atlas family of tools. Each country page links to that country’s legal-system profile.

Minimum wages change, in many countries every year. Each figure here is shown with the date it applies from and a link to an official source, and the date is part of the figure: a number without its date is not a fact. The dollar column is a rough comparison only. It converts each figure to a full-time monthly amount (assuming a 40-hour week where the law states an hourly rate) at exchange rates of 2026-10-09. It does not show how far the money goes: prices, taxes, and what employers must add (holiday pay, social contributions) differ greatly between countries. Where a country has no statutory minimum, there is no figure to show. This is general information, not legal or employment advice.

108 more countries: the latest figure reported to the ILO

These countries do not yet have their own page here. The table shows the most recent monthly minimum wage each one reported to the International Labour Organization, with the year. Most of these figures are from 2024 or earlier and may well have changed since, so use them to see that a minimum exists and roughly how large it was, and check the national authority for the amount now. Where a country has very high inflation or an unstable situation, the table says so, and the dollar figure is left out because an older number would mislead. Click any of these countries on the map for the same information.

Source: ILOSTAT, the International Labour Organization’s database (monthly minimum wage, national currency; downloaded 2026-10-09). The dollar column applies exchange rates of 2026-10-09 to the reported amount, so for an older figure it is indicative at best.

Ways of setting a minimum

  • A statutory national minimum. A law, or a government decision under a law, sets one amount. It may be quoted per hour, per day or per month, and some countries add age bands or skill levels.
  • Regional minimums. Provinces, states or regions set their own rates and there is no single national amount.
  • Collective agreements. There is no minimum wage law. Unions and employers agree pay floors sector by sector, and in some countries the law makes those agreements binding on everyone in the sector.
