Who sets it
The Government sets the national minimum wage by legal notice, after advice from the social partners.
How it changes
The minimum rises each year through a cost-of-living adjustment, and is reviewed from time to time.
Who is covered, and who is treated differently
- Lower rates apply to workers aged 16 and 17.
- Employers also owe statutory bonuses in addition to the minimum.
What to watch for
- Check the current legal notice for the rate for your age.
Understand the legal system first
Malta belongs to the Mixed: civil and common law family. How pay is regulated depends on how the legal system makes and applies labour law.
