The Legislature: A Living Map

Statutes are one source of law, made by a legislature with defined structure and powers. A bill passes through committees and both chambers, then goes to the President to sign or veto (with the possibility of an override). Courts then interpret statutes, looking at text, structure, purpose and legislative history. Press Play to watch the map build, click an idea for its definition and the usual trap, or trace a short case. A simplified teaching map of the general approach (mainly US law); check the law where you work.
