Evidence Law: A Living Map

Evidence law decides what the jury may hear. Evidence must be relevant, and relevant evidence can still be excluded (for unfair prejudice or as improper character evidence). Hearsay is generally excluded unless it is not hearsay, an exemption or an exception applies. Witnesses can be impeached, experts must be reliable, privileges protect confidential communications, and exhibits must be authenticated. A simplified teaching map of the general approach (mainly US law); check the law where you work.
