At a glance

  • 54 countries or territories have a figure.
  • The highest is Chile at 100.7 (2019) and the lowest is Kosovo at 4.6 (2019).
  • The middle value (the median) is 39.6.

What it counts

The number of divorces in a year divided by the number of marriages in the same year, times 100. The latest year reported since 2015 (the pandemic years 2020 and 2021 are skipped where possible).

What it leaves out, and how far to trust a comparison

This is not the share of marriages that will end in divorce. It compares divorces of marriages made over many past years with marriages made in one year, so it can exceed 100 where marriages are few. It moves when people marry later or less often.
