Foreign legal consultant
For: Lawyers licensed abroad, in a country that has a free trade agreement with Korea.
- Have at least about three years of experience as a lawyer in your home country (sources vary on the exact rule, so check the statute).
- Apply to the Ministry of Justice for approval to practise as a foreign legal consultant. The Minister may ask the Korean Bar Association for its opinion.
- Register with the Korean Bar Association. Documents must be originals or authenticated copies, with certified Korean translations.
Consultants cannot represent clients in Korean courts or handle Korean-law matters on their own. Only some foreign lawyers in Korea are properly registered.
