At a glance
- 216 countries or territories have a figure.
- The highest is Qatar at 76.7% (2024) and the lowest is Cuba at 0.0% (2024).
- The middle value (the median) is 5.6%.
What it counts
The international migrant stock: people living in a country other than the one where they were born (or, where this is not known, of which they are citizens), as a share of the total population, as estimated by the United Nations Population Division.
What it leaves out, and how far to trust a comparison
Countries define migrants differently (by birth or by citizenship), and borders that changed make some people migrants who never moved. The figures are estimates built from censuses and registers of different years and say nothing about the legal status of the migrants.
