Divorces in the year compared with marriages in the same year. This is not the share of marriages that end in divorce.

In 2000 there were 3.9 divorces per 1,000 people in Liechtenstein. In 2012 the rate was 2.4, which is lower.

The latest year published for Liechtenstein is 2012. The country has not reported newer figures to Eurostat, so the picture may have changed since.

This line can jump in 2020 and 2021, when many weddings were postponed and the number of marriages fell sharply, even if divorces did not change much. It is a comparison of two yearly totals, not a forecast for any couple.

Reading the numbers. Divorce statistics depend on each country’s law and on how it counts: whether annulments and legal separations are included, whether religious or out-of-court divorces are recorded, and how much of the population is married at all. Compare countries with care.
