Module 3
Asking questions of data: select, filter, count, group and sort
Spreadsheets are fine for small tables and for looking. To ask the same question of a large table, again and again and reliably, lawyers who work with data learn a query language. The most widespread is SQL, which was designed so that its commands read almost like English: select these columns from this table where these conditions hold. It takes an afternoon to learn the core, and it is the skill behind nearly every dashboard. This module teaches the core in a safe subset, and you will practise in the Query Playground, a small, read-only table of invented legal matters that runs in your browser. Nothing you type can break anything, and nothing leaves the page.
