Module 4
Workflow patterns and checkpoints: where the model, the rules and the person each belong
A single prompt to a chatbot is a conversation. A workflow is a design: a sequence of steps, each with a clear input, a clear output and an owner, some done by a model, some by ordinary rules and code, some by a person. The difference matters, because the reliability of a legal AI system comes less from the model than from how the work is divided. This module teaches the central design principle (use the model for language, rules for logic and people for judgement), five patterns that cover most legal uses, where to place human checkpoints so that they are real and not ceremonial and how to handle the things that go wrong: errors, odd inputs, slow responses and changes made by the supplier.
