Module 2
Prompts as specifications: instructions that can be tested
The words you give a language model decide what it does, and most disappointing results come from vague instructions. ‘Review this contract’ means a dozen different things; a model will pick one. The skill that matters in a legal workflow is to write the instruction as a specification: precise about the task, the context, the limits and the form of the answer, so that two people reading it would expect the same output and so that the output can be checked. This module teaches the parts of a good prompt, the habit of demanding quotations and structure, the handling of text that might contain hostile instructions and the discipline of treating a prompt as an asset to be versioned and tested like a template or a rule.
