At a glance

  • 105 countries or territories have a figure.
  • The highest is Afghanistan at 46.1% (2015) and the lowest is Slovenia at 2.0% (2012).
  • The middle value (the median) is 11.0%.

What it counts

The percentage of ever-partnered women aged 15 to 49 who were subjected to physical violence, sexual violence or both by a current or former intimate partner in the 12 months before a survey.

What it leaves out, and how far to trust a comparison

These figures come from surveys, not police records, and the latest survey for each country was held in a different year (shown). Willingness to report, survey methods and definitions differ, and a low figure can mean low reporting. They are estimates, not counts, and cover countries with a recent survey only.
