Module 7
Your path: becoming a paralegal, specialising, progressing and deciding whether it suits you
Paralegal work attracts people from many backgrounds: law graduates who are waiting for a training place, career changers, people who began as secretaries or administrators, school leavers who start through apprenticeships and experienced people who want a legal career without becoming a lawyer. It can be a stepping stone, a destination or both. It can also be a trap if you take it expecting something it does not offer. This module sets out the routes in, how to get the first role, what to build, what the specialisations and progression look like, the real trade-offs and how to decide whether it suits you, with the Role Explorer. The routes and the rules about qualifications differ by country, and this is not career advice for your own situation.
