The Law To Know

Capstone

Capstone: a first six months at Whitcombe & Lund

Priya Nair has just joined Whitcombe & Lund, an invented firm of about forty lawyers, as a paralegal in the litigation department. She has a degree in a different subject, a paralegal certificate and a year as a legal secretary. Her supervising lawyer is Senior Associate Daniel Osei. The firm has a busy supply dispute, Stark Joinery against Marlow Builders, which is heading towards a hearing. In her first six months she will meet six situations. At each step, decide what Priya should do and why, using what you have learnt in the seven modules, and then write a one-page plan for her next six months. The people and procedures are invented and general, not those of any one country.

Module 1 of this course is free, and this is not it. Unlock the whole course below, or go back to the course page.

General education on the work of a paralegal across legal systems, using invented people, firms and cases. It is not legal or career advice. The rules on what paralegals may do, on privilege, disclosure and the counting of time limits, and on qualifications differ between countries and change: check the rules that apply to you with your employer, the court and your regulator.
