Module 2
The duties behind security: confidentiality, competence, data protection, contracts and regulation
Security is not only good practice. For a lawyer it is a duty, and it comes from several directions at once: the rules of the profession, data protection law, the contracts the practice has signed, the regulation of particular sectors, and the law that makes attacking a computer a crime. Knowing the sources lets you answer the questions that follow every incident: who must be told, what is our exposure, and what did we have to do beforehand? This module maps the sources. It does not set out any one country’s rules, and it tells you where to look.
