Constitution of Cádiz

Spain

A liberal constitution drawn up in Cádiz during the war against Napoleon, which set up a constitutional monarchy, a single parliament and rights for citizens.

Why it matters

It was in force only briefly, but it was a model for liberal constitutions in Portugal, Italy and across Latin America.
