How to use it

  • When: you invite a relative, friend or business contact to visit you in your country, and the visitor needs a letter to support a visa application or to show at the border.
  • Who signs: the host (the person inviting). The guest keeps a copy for the application and for the trip.
  • Fill in everything in [square brackets] and cross out options that do not apply. The details must match the guest's passport and the visa application exactly.
  • Be truthful and specific: state who the guest is, why they are coming, for how long, where they will stay and who pays. Do not promise anything you cannot do.
  • Attach what is asked: often a copy of the host's ID or residence permit, proof of address, proof of income and, if the guest stays with you, a document showing you may host them.
  • Tip: check the embassy's website for the exact requirements and any form to use. Some require the invitation to be signed before a notary or registered with an authority.
