Photo and Image Release
For giving clear permission to use photos or video of a person: uses, limits, duration, credit, withdrawal, children.
Card payment through Stripe. Your files are ready straight after payment and are also sent by e-mail.
Licence: this document is for your personal use only. You may not resell, share, copy or republish it, or use its content, without the written permission of TheLawToKnow.
How to use it
- When: a person is photographed or filmed and the photographer, business, organisation or publisher wants clear permission to use the images, for example on a website, in social media, in print or in advertising.
- Who signs: the person shown in the images (the "subject") and the person or organisation using them. If the subject is under 18, a parent or legal guardian signs for them.
- Fill in everything in [square brackets] and cross out options that do not apply. Describe the images and the uses as precisely as you can.
- Be specific: the narrower and clearer the permission, the better it protects both sides. Tick only the uses the subject really agrees to.
- Keep it fair: the subject should be able to read the release before the shoot, ask questions and refuse any use they do not want.
- Tip: each side keeps a signed copy, and the user keeps a note of which images were covered. Make the release for each shoot, or for a defined series, not an open-ended permission for everything.

What these templates are not
- They are self-help templates, not legal advice, and they do not replace a lawyer.
- Laws differ from country to country, and some rules cannot be changed by contract. Each template ends with a checklist of what to check where you live.
- For a high-value or unusual situation, ask a local lawyer or notary to look at the final text.
