Module 6
Working under pressure: caseload, trauma, the media, politics and keeping your integrity
The honest account of a prosecutor’s working life includes more difficulty than the textbooks say. Offices are often under-resourced; caseloads are heavy; the material is distressing; the stakes for victims and defendants are high; and the work is watched by the press, politicians and the public. A prosecutor has to carry all of this and still make careful, fair decisions. This module is about how that is done, and what happens when it is not. It starts with the practical problem of too many files, offers a way to order them with the Caseload Triage tool, and then turns to the human costs and ethical pressures. It is not a substitute for the support of a good office, and the advice of a colleague is worth more than a course.
