Module 2
The documents and the acts: deeds, signatures, oaths, copies, translations and documents for use abroad
Ask ten notaries what they do all day, and the answers will differ widely: one draws up deeds for a family buying a flat, another certifies copies of diplomas for people going abroad, a third attends the signing of a power of attorney in a hospital, a fourth prepares company documents for a foreign investor. The range of acts is wide, but the structure underneath is the same. This module lists the main acts, takes you through the steps of a notarial act and then follows the journey that many documents take when they have to be used in another country, where the question ‘what do I need to do after the notary?’ confuses a great many people. The Document Route Planner in the labs shows the order of steps. As always, the acts that a notary may perform, and the rules for documents used abroad, differ by country.
