Capstone
Capstone: a new judge’s first months at the Alder Vale District Court
Mireille Haddad has just been appointed a judge of the Alder Vale District Court, an invented court in an invented country with a mixed system. She has spent twenty years in practice, mostly in commercial and family law. She sits alone in the district court, hears a wide range of civil, family and minor criminal cases and is mentored by Presiding Judge Okonkwo-Reyes. In her first months she will meet six situations. At each step, decide what Judge Haddad should do and why, using what you have learnt in the seven modules, and then write a one-page plan for her next six months. The court, the people and the procedures are invented and general, not those of any one country.
