Module 2
Defining the job and finding people: the role, the advertisement, the sources and fairness
Most bad hires are decided before the first interview. They begin with a vague idea of what the job is, a hurried advertisement that attracts the wrong people and a field so narrow that the best candidate never applies. The remedy is not a cleverer interview. It is a clearer picture of the work, a better advertisement and a wider, fairer search. This module teaches how to analyse the job, how to separate what a person must have from what would be nice, how to write an advertisement that is both honest and attractive, where to look for candidates, how to widen the field without lowering the standard and how to avoid the discrimination that the law forbids and that also, quite simply, wastes talent.
