The Law To Know

Contract Pipeline Lab

Ask a chatbot to read a contract and it will give you a fluent answer. It will not tell you which of its figures are invented, which dates it got wrong, or which quotes it made up. This lab is the software around the AI that does: a working contract pipeline you run in your browser.

Load a practice contract and watch it become structure, data, a list of faults and a calendar. Set an AI on the same job and see, field by field, where it is right and where it is confidently wrong. Then take it through the rest of the life of a contract: your playbook, an amendment, the letters, the question of which law applies, and a portfolio of everything you have saved. Everything checkable is checked by code, not by another AI.

Free, or with your own AI

The practice contracts and a recorded AI run are free and need nothing. To use a real AI, paste your own API key from Anthropic or OpenAI. It stays in your browser and goes straight to them: we never see it, and we pay nothing, so neither do you pay us. You pay your provider a few cents per run.

Start with a practice contract

The pipeline, stage by stage

  1. 1Intake. Splits a contract into clauses and finds its parties, defined terms and cross-references.
  2. 2Extract. The key fields, each with the exact source words and clause number for each, by code, in milliseconds.
  3. 3Validate. Finds what is wrong with the contract itself: words that disagree with figures, clauses that do not exist, terms never defined, dates that contradict, law and courts that do not match.
  4. 4Key dates. Works out the last day of the term (leap years included), the last day to stop a renewal and what happens if it is missed, and exports a calendar file.
  5. 5AI check. An AI does the same extraction. Code then looks for every quote it gave in the contract, flags invented values and fabricated quotes, scores it against an answer key and times it.
  6. 6Playbook. Your preferred, fallback and red-line positions as rules with numbers you can change, run against the contract, with a reason for every finding.
  7. 7Amend. Load a changed version. See every clause that changed, word by word, and what the change does to the dates, the money, the faults and your playbook.
  8. 8Letters. Notices, requests and reminders filled in from the record, with a fact-checker that flags any date, amount or period that is not in it, including after an AI has reworded the letter.
  9. 9Law. The questions that decide which law and which court apply, ordered by importance, built from what the contract says and what you tell it. It never claims to know the answer.
  10. 10Portfolio. Save contracts in your own browser, see all of them at once, spot the renewal windows that have closed, and export a spreadsheet or one calendar.

Still to come

  • More practice contractsLeases, employment agreements, NDAs and services contracts, each with its own traps.
  • A harder tierOdd wording and messy layouts, where the rule-based extractor struggles and the AI shows what it is for.

Skills training with fictional material, not legal advice. The pipeline finds mechanical faults and checks an AI’s output; deciding what a contract means stays with a lawyer.
